Upcoming Event: Prek-2nd Grade Arts Night! Dec. 16!

This year, we are trying something new. The Arts Night for grades PreK-2 will take place on December 16, along with the Winter Chorus Concert. Come by and visit the temporary art museum to see 1st grade monster sculptures, 2nd grade sculptural town collaborations, a variety of Kindergarten work, and fall-themed PreK mixed media pieces. What's happening in 4th grade art class?

The students in 4th grade are collaborating to paint murals in the upstairs 3rd grade hallway. They learned previously about figure drawing and gesture drawing, and artist Keith Haring, then designed ideas for figures that show movement. They are now working to paint the figures and add decorative details.

What's happening in 5th grade art?

Students in 5th grade are creating parodies of the famous "American Gothic" painting by Grant Wood. They learned the characteristics of parodies in art and music, learned how to block a drawing for accurate proportion, and are creating original parodies.

What's happening in 3rd grade art class?

Students in 3rd grade are collaborating to create a large paper quilt. They learned about the folk tradition of American quiltmaking, and also about radial balance and how it is similar and different to symmetrical balance. They are creating paper quilt square with radial balance and a variety of media.

What's happening in 2nd grade art class?

Students in 2nd grade are working collaboratively to create a reimagined school community. They are creating 3d buildings using paper folding techniques, and will later create an aerial drawing of their collaborative piece. City Planners Extraordinaire!

What's going on in 1st grade art class?

Students in 1st grade are learning about the Oaxaca culture of Mexico and their amazing "animalito" sculptures. They are learning that visual texture can be created with patterns.

What's going on in K art class?

Students in Kindergarten are learning about Wassily Kandinsky, and are practicing printmaking and the circle shape. They are learning to manipulate paint in new ways.
